SUPERVISORY MEDICAL SUPPORT ASSISTANT

The incumbent establishes guidelines and performance expectations for staff, which are clearly communicated through the formal employee performance management system. Provides training and encourages staff development. Administers new employee unit orientation and conducts staff meetings. Observes workers' performance; demonstrates and conducts work performance critiques. Provides informal feedback and evaluates employee performance. Resolves informal complaints and grievances. Develops work improvement plans, recommending personnel actions. Affects disciplinary measure as appropriate to the authority delegated in this area. Reviews and approves or denies leave requests. Assures that subordinates are trained and full comply with the provisions of the safety regulations. Incumbent initiates nondiscriminatory practices and affirmative action for the area under his/her supervision in the following:
(1) merit promotion of employees and recruitment and hiring of applicants; (2) fair treatment of all employees; (3) encouragement and recognition of employee achievements; (4) career development of employees; and (5) full utilization of their skills. Keeps informed of, supports, and communicates to employees EEO policies, plans, and programs. Analyses results and recommends corrections to improve system operations or data consistency. Manages medical administrative functions associated with clinical support programs for the FHCC. Performs a variety of duties to carry out work concerned with assuring quality of work transactions to carry out health care programs and functions. Distributes and balances the workload among employees making sure work is accomplished in a timely manner by monitoring the status and progress of work. Makes day-to-day adjustments and solves problems. Provide briefings or other duties as assigned. Knowledge and skill of a qualified typist to facilitate prompt and efficient data input is required at a minimum of 30 words per minute. The incumbent can be pulled to work in any clinic because of staffing shortages and backlog reports. Meets the needs of customers, while supporting the Medical Center and Service missions. Consistently communications and treats customers (patients, visitors, volunteers, and all Medical Center Staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures. Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately. Experience:
One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. Assignment. Supervisory MSAs at this level plan and direct programs at medical centers and/or satellite outpatient clinics and have full supervisory responsibility for supervising at least one subordinate team leader or supervisor. Assignments at this level include, but are not limited to:
assigning and evaluating the work of subordinate staff; resolving complex problems to ensure patient services are met; evaluating new products, equipment, and systems in order to make recommendations for improved operations; identifying educational or training needs; making final decisions on selections; evaluating performance, and taking disciplinary action when necessary. The employee has full administrative and professional responsibility for planning and directing the MSA's activities. Responsible for extracting and analyzing data in order to provide reports in support of performance measures to senior management. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher level duties must consist of significant scope, administrative independence, complexity (difficulty) and range of variety as described in this standard at the specified grade level and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. Candidates must demonstrate the KSAs below:
1. Ability to provide the full range of administrative and supervisory duties to at least one subordinate MSA supervisor or team leader in a patient support setting which includes assignment of work, performance evaluations, selection of staff, and recommendation of awards and/or advancements. 2. Ability to collaborate, communicate, and demonstrate customer service and interpersonal skills with all internal and external customers to ensure quality/continuity of care and ensure compliance with established policies and regulations. 3. Ability to provide briefings, orientations, staff development, and training in a patient support setting. 4. Ability to manage fiscal matters, forecast resource and equipment needs, and identify budget needs. 5. Advanced knowledge of managing or leading patient support staff in a clinic. This includes independently utilizing reference sources, decision making, and empowering the team to collaborate and resolve problems within a complex systems environment. References:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; or driving an automobile, etc. Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to utilize a government vehicle. Position may require commuting to outreach clinics. Some positions may involve more frequent walking to various locations of the medical facility (e.g., those located in medical facilities without escort service and without automated information systems) but these positions require no unusual physical demands to perform the work.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
