INSULATOR with Security Clearance

Dutieso You will measure and identify dimensions of irregular shaped valves, flanges, fittings, and other unique or one-of-a-kind structures.
o You will plan and lay out the work using parallel and radial line development and the principles of triangulation to prepare patterns, templates, and sketches of the items to be coveredo You will use a variety of blueprints, drawings, and other specifications to construct the insulating forms into desired shapes.
o You will develop patterns and lay outs, cuts, forms, joins, assembles, and installs all types of insulating materials.

Ability to do the work of a WG-3610-10 Insulator without more than normal supervision as demonstrated by the following tasks:
1) Demonstrating Journey level knowledge of insulating materials and their insulating properties and ability to lay out, form, and install a variety of insulating materials to properly insulate large conventional or one-of- a-kind enclosures that have straight and curved surfaces, and irregular curves and planes2) Using skills in all types of asbestos removal procedures, i.
e.
, glove bags, rip-out and encapsulationThese procedures include the prescribed methods for personal protection with respirator and clothing to avoid the further contamination of individuals or area with asbestos3) Evaluating and calculating the installation areas and estimate the types and amount of insulation required while considering such factors as, size, shape, temperature, accessibility, environment, and physical appearance requirements of the items or systems to be insulated4) Knowing how to measure and identify dimensions of irregular shaped valves, flanges, fittings, and other unique or one-of-a-kind structures; and to develop patterns, templates, and drawings, using geometrical constructions and the principles of triangulation to transfer the shapes and measurements to paper5) Reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and project plans to identify the dimensional characteristics of the surfaces, curves, angles, and slopes to be covered6) Calculating and performing a variety of linear, angular, cubic and circular measurements, and compute such factors as thermal conductivity and sound absorbency to select the proper type and amount of insulation required7) Using blower machines to apply sound or heat insulating materials into closed spaces and fabricate molded sections of insulation to enclose unique or unusual structures8) Constructing insulation boxes to cover groups of piping elements and enclosed fittings, flanges or valves, and install double layers of insulation on high pressure steam lines ensuring that the staggered joints of the second layer overlap those of the first8) Using tools, materials, and equipment common to the trade; and skill in the use of electric hand saws, and gasket punches; skill in working with lacing rings, washers, hooks, and grommets for insulating covers, various vapor sealing compounds, waterproof covers, and fireproof papers for installation on refrigeration units, and cold-water pipes9) Evaluating damaged or inadequate insulation normally betrayed by sound, gross appearance, or temperature; and skill to plan and lay out repair and modification projects to ensure uniform finish, stability, and continuity of insulating qualitiesThe Screen-out Element for the WG-08 level is:
Ability to do the work of a WG-3610-08 Insulator without more than normal supervision as demonstrated by the following tasks:
1) Assisting journeyman level Insulators with fabricating and installing insulation on such items and systems as air ducts, heaters, generators, pumps, evaporators, refrigeration units, boilers, and a variety of other large, conventional, or one-of-a-kind enclosures that have straight and curved surfaces, and irregular curves and planes2) Assisting journeyman level Insulators assembling and forming bulk insulation to cover irregular shapes for valve, fitting, flanges, and similar parts3) Preparing removable or replaceable section of insulation for valves and similar fitting4) Assisting with measuring connections, making of paper patterns, cutting insulating material, and sewing parts together5) Developing the knowledge to identify all types of asbestos removal procedures such as glove bags, rip-out and encapsulation.
