Senior Project Engineer, Manufacturing

This position is an individual contributor function, working with a team of engineers and technicians to provide technical support to the AbbVie North Chicago Manufacturing (NCM) Plant within the Operations organization of AbbVie. The North Chicago Manufacturing Plant supports the business through manufacturing of many AbbVie products across AbbVie's portfolio and serves as a strategic TPM in the AbbVie network for external client work. This function will lead the planning, design, and execution of capital projects for the NCM plant. Contribute to the development of the capital plan and long term business strategy by identification of capital improvements required to meet business demands. Collaborate with technical operations, chemists, and operations on the introduction of new processes into the plant. Responsible for the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical facilities, equipment, processes, control systems, and utilities. Supports the area in all aspects of engineering, contract administration, procurement, environmental control, safety, process design, instrumentation, technology application, utilities, and equipment design/fabrication. Project Management - Responsible for all phases of the capital project lifecycle for projects up to $5MM related to the installation of new equipment or facilities and/or modification of existing equipment and facilities. Responsibilities include:
economic and feasibility analysis, conceptual and schematic design, cost estimating, scope development, project execution planning, preparation of requests for capital expenditure, detail design, construction supervision, cost and schedule control, commissioning, qualification, startup, operator training and financial closeout. Process Support - Support technical operations, process engineers and operations staff in the introduction of new processes in the NCM Plant. Investigate, develop and recommend alternatives for design, procurement and installation of new equipment or modification of existing equipment to optimize plant utilization. Apply new or existing technologies in innovative ways to address process development needs. Operations & Maintenance Support - Provide technical assistance related to the operation and maintenance of equipment, facilities, and utilities. Assess performance of process equipment and control systems and recommend and/or design performance improvements to positively impact cycle time, product yield or quality. Troubleshoot equipment problems, perform root cause analysis and identify corrective actions. Recommend and setup spare parts and maintenance schedules. Implement programs to enhance plant maintenance, safety and environmental control. Accountability/Scope Supervision received is administrative. Assignments are given as broad general objectives and limits. Responsible for the successful completion of projects within the stated parameters of scope, cost, and schedule with the assurance that all functional, regulatory, client, and good engineering practice requirements are met.
Qualifications:
Education BS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering. Background Progressive experience and demonstrated competence in their field with 5
years related experience. Candidate shall have a strong technical background and working knowledge in areas of process system design and construction, process equipment sizing and selection, instrumentation and control systems. Knowledge in aseptic and/or biologics processing and/or pharmaceutical GMPs is a plus. Candidate shall have experience in the development and execution of capital projects including project definition and scope development, cost estimating, preparation of requests for capital expenditures, scheduling, cost control, construction supervision and startup support. Candidate shall possess strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to work within a team environment. Significant Work Activities:
